Tavan Drop-Off & Pick-Up Procedures
The above map shows the flow of traffic for vehicles who are arriving to drop off or pick up students from Tavan. Please be sure to follow this flow map and the below details that pertain to your drop-off and pick-up method.
general safety reinders
For student safety and a smooth dismissal, your teacher needs to know how your child will be going home each day (Car, Bus, Walker). Please communicate your student’s pick-up method with their teacher and let them know if this method is changing as soon as possible.
NO early pick-ups after 2:30 pm (12:30pm on early release days)
To keep all of our Wildcats, families, and neighbors safe, please remember:
- Slow Down & Stay Alert – Students are walking to and from school. Please watch for crosswalks and follow the directions of our crossing guards. They’re here to keep everyone safe.
- Use Your Turn Signals – Help keep traffic flowing smoothly (and safely) by always signaling when entering or exiting the drop-off/pick-up line or turning near campus in the crosswalk.
park and walk Drop-Off/pick-up Guidelines
If you PARK & WALK or are walking in general to pick up your student, please follow the important details below for your grade:
- Be Kind to Our Neighbors – Do not block the driveways of residents who live next to Tavan. Let’s show them the same respect we want in our own neighborhood.
- Parking Reminders – The front parking lot is reserved for Pre-K families and visitors only. All others should use the Annex parking lot located on the SW corner of Osborn & 46th Street or park throughout the neighborhood following the BE KIND policy.
Grade Specific Information:
- Pre-K Parents: All Pre-K students must be signed in and out each day. Please wait for your teacher near the front of the office at 3:00 pm to sign students out each day. (1:00 pm on early release days)
- Kindergarten Parents: Please make sure your student and their teacher knows that they are a WALKER and wait by the kindergarten gate at 3:00 pm with your family number in hand. Present the assigned family number for teachers to release your student accordingly. (1:00 pm on early release days)
- First & Second Grade Parents: Please make sure your student knows that they are a WALKER. Students will be released at 3:15pm. Please come to the main gate to meet them by 3:15pm with your family number. (1:15 pm on early release days)
- Third through Fifth Grade Parents: Your students are able to walk out of school independently. Please wait for them on the North or South side of the sidewalk that borders the school on Osborn.
VEHICLE STUDENT Drop-Off Guidelines
In an effort to expedite student drop off in the back, please use the following methods to help our line move smoother and quicker:
- Drivers Stay in the Car – Please remain in your vehicle at all times.
- Pull Forward – Move up as far as possible so more cars can enter the line quickly.
- Passenger Side Exit Only – Students must exit on the passenger side for safety and to avoid damage from passing cars.
- Be Ready to Go – Goodbyes, hugs, and tech put-away should happen before you stop. Backpacks, water bottles, and lunchboxes should be within easy reach so students can hop out quickly.
Thank you for doing your part! By following these steps, we keep our Wildcats safe and help all families move through the line faster.
VEHICLE STUDENT Pick-Up Guidelines
Tavan staff is trained to ensure every child gets safely into their car. Please review the guidelines below to help dismissal run smoothly for everyone:
-
Family Number Required – Please have your assigned family number clearly displayed on the driver’s side dashboard.
-
Follow the Flow – Always stay in the traffic line in the back, even if you spot your child waiting by another gate. This keeps dismissal safe and orderly.
-
Gate 1 = Buckle Zone – If your child needs help buckling into a car seat (especially with a 5-point harness), you’ll be directed to Gate 1. This area is designed to give you time and space to safely secure your child.
-
Wait for Gate 1 Pickup – Please do not stop the line early to buckle your child prior to Gate 1. When you reach the staff member with the microphone, kindly let them know to send your child to Gate 1.
Thank you for helping us keep dismissal safe, smooth, and stress-free for all of our Wildcats!
